Why us

What makes a Sak Yant authentic — and why ours is

A real Ajarn, not a tourist shop

18+ years of practice in the Southern Thai lineage (Surat Thani / Nakhon Si Thammarat), trained under recognized senior masters. You meet the Ajarn personally, not anonymous staff.

Hygiene you can actually verify

Sterile single-use needle opened in front of you, fresh ink per client, gloves and disposable materials. Same standards as a modern tattoo studio, applied to a traditional ritual.

Khata blessing chanted live

Every Sak Yant is activated by a Khata mantra chanted during the tattoo. We explain what it means and why it matters before we start.

English-speaking consultation

Free 15-minute consultation in English to choose the Yant that fits your life situation. Translator available for French, Russian and German on request.

Services

Three ways to receive your Sak Yant on Koh Samui

Whether you want a quick beachside session, a shared experience with your partner, or a full immersive temple day, every option includes a consultation, a Khata blessing and an aftercare kit.

Beachside studio session

Tattoo done at our Bophut Fisherman's Village studio, a short walk from the beach. 1–2 hours total including consultation and blessing — perfect between sun and dinner.

Couples & small group session

2 to 5 people the same day, with a 10% discount automatically applied when 2 book together. Ideal for honeymoons, friends and family trips.

Private island temple visit

Half-day with private transport to an affiliated temple on the island, traditional offerings prepared for you and a translator present. Our most immersive Koh Samui experience.

Custom Southern Thai designs

Beyond classic Yants, our master designs custom Southern Thai marine and protection motifs — Suea twin tigers, sea creatures, personal protection sigils discussed during consultation.

Pricing

Transparent pricing — published, no surprise on the day

Koh Samui pricing is slightly higher than mainland temples because every session includes a private studio, fresh sterile materials, a personal English consultation and the Ajarn's full attention. What you read here is what you pay — the only addition can be the optional temple package.

A 1,000 THB deposit secures your slot and is deducted from the final price. Especially important December to February when high season slots fill weeks ahead.

4

The session — offering, tattoo, Khata

You arrive at the Bophut studio, prepare a small offering, receive the tattoo with the Khata chanted live, and finish with a final blessing. Total time: 1 to 2 hours for most designs.

5

Aftercare for tropical Koh Samui

You leave with a balm, written aftercare in English and clear Khor Ham (post-tattoo prohibitions). We stay reachable on WhatsApp during healing for any question.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Sak Yant safe? What about hygiene and needles?

Yes. We open a brand new sterile needle in front of you for every client, use fresh ink poured from a sealed source, and wear gloves throughout. There is no shared needle and no reused ink — the risk of HIV or Hepatitis from our sessions is the same as in a modern tattoo studio: effectively none when protocols are followed.

Are you a real Ajarn or just a tattoo shop doing the designs?

Our master trained for 18+ years in the Southern Thai tradition (Surat Thani / Nakhon Si Thammarat lineage), starting at a samnak and continuing under senior Ajarns in Bangkok and the South. You meet him personally, see his work and credentials, and he performs every tattoo himself — not staff.

Why is Sak Yant more expensive on Koh Samui than in Chiang Mai or Bangkok?

Koh Samui has higher operating costs (island logistics, studio rent in Bophut, imported sterile materials) and our pricing includes a private English consultation, full Khata blessing, aftercare kit and the Ajarn's undivided attention. Temple sessions in Bangkok are cheaper but offer no consultation, no English, and far less control over hygiene.

How much does a Sak Yant cost on Koh Samui?

A small Yant starts at 2,800 THB. Common classic designs (Hah Taew, Gao Yord, Paed Tidt) range from 3,800 to 5,800 THB. Large or custom Southern Thai designs are 7,000 to 9,500 THB. Couples booking the same day receive a 10% discount, and the all-inclusive private temple package is 10,500 THB.

Can foreigners and non-Buddhists get a real Sak Yant?

Absolutely. Sak Yant has been given to non-Thais for decades and the Ajarn welcomes respectful foreigners of any faith or none. What matters is your intention and your willingness to honor the Khor Ham (post-tattoo rules). We will guide you on respectful behavior throughout.

Which Yant design should I choose — Hah Taew, Gao Yord, Paed Tidt, or Suea?

It depends on your situation. Hah Taew (5 lines) is the most universal — protection, charm, success. Gao Yord (9 spires) is a powerful all-purpose protection. Paed Tidt (8 directions) protects travelers. Suea (twin tigers) brings strength and authority. The consultation exists exactly to help you choose — or the Ajarn can choose for you.

What does it feel like — is it painful?

Sak Yant feels different from a machine tattoo: a steady, rhythmic prick rather than a continuous buzz. Most clients describe it as moderate and very bearable, especially for upper-back and shoulder placements. Small designs (30 min) are easy; longer sessions naturally feel more intense in the last 20 minutes.

Can I choose where on my body? Are there restrictions?

Yes, you choose with our guidance. Sacred Yants and especially any Buddha imagery should be placed on the upper body — never below the waist, which is considered deeply disrespectful. Back, shoulders, chest and upper arms are the traditional and most recommended placements.

Is it permanent? Can it be removed?

Yes, Sak Yant is a real tattoo and is permanent. Like any tattoo, it can technically be removed by laser, but doing so on a sacred Yant is considered disrespectful in Thai tradition. We strongly encourage you to take the consultation seriously so the design is one you will carry proudly for life.

How long does healing take, especially in Koh Samui's climate?

Surface healing takes about 7–10 days, full healing 3–4 weeks. In Koh Samui's heat and humidity, you must avoid sea and pool swimming for at least 10–14 days, keep the tattoo out of direct sun, and apply the balm we provide. We give written aftercare in English and stay reachable on WhatsApp during your healing.

What are the Khor Ham — the rules I must follow after?

The Khor Ham are moral commitments such as not speaking ill of your parents, not stealing, not committing adultery, and respecting the sacred nature of the Yant. They are not extreme, but they should be taken seriously. You receive the full list in writing in English at the end of your session.

Do I get a Khata blessing with my tattoo?

Yes, always. The Ajarn chants the Khata mantra during the tattoo to activate it — without the Khata, a Sak Yant is just ink. We explain in English what the specific Khata for your design says and what it asks of you.

Should I tip the Ajarn? How much?

Tipping is not mandatory and is never demanded. Traditionally a small offering of flowers, incense or a modest cash gift (200–500 THB) is appreciated as a sign of respect. The Ajarn will never pressure you for more — the published price is the price.

Do I need to book in advance?

Strongly recommended, especially December to February (peak season) and around Songkran. A 1,000 THB deposit confirms your slot and is deducted from the final price. In shoulder season we can sometimes accommodate next-day bookings — message us with your dates.
